I want to know people’s thoughts on a possible trade my father may make. He may trade his 1965 Stingray for this restomod Mustang.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I have no good picture of the Corvette on my phone

The Corvette is in pretty perfect original shape, numbers matching and all those other old man details.

The details on the Mustang:

Its a 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback with 13,800 miles red on the outside, black on the inside for $69,900(CAD).

Details:

Kinja'd!!!

He’s thinking a straight across trade, to avoid taxes. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions?

It would match his DD.

Neither would make me happy, so I guess I’d say which would make him happier ? the ‘Vette or the “stang?

My opinion, which has been valued at nearly 0.111111049984732 billion dollars, by a certified opinion appraiser, is that only a madman would trade that badass Corvette for a restomod Ferd.  Mustangs are cool and all, but the Vette of that particular vintage is a much rarer, head turner of a ride.  The Mustang is likely a peach to drive, but I’ve always been a Chevy man, so my bias is clearly showing...

A stingray has always been a dream car of mine (although a early c3 (1969) in candy apple red with side exit exhausts)

I’ve always adored the styling of both the c2 and the c3.... If your father has some spare cash why doesn’t he just restomod his stingray?

Best of both worlds then?

Normally, I’d be a big fan of picking up that Mustang, but in this case, I can’t see giving up that Stingray.

I think this is a bad move. ‘65 Stingray for a restomod, which is just a really nice way of saying “a real restoration would cost too much so don’t use original parts”. I know because I have a restomod.

Bad deal IMO. In USD, that’s around $53k- I think a roughly equivalent Mustang could be purchased for $10k-$20k less than that; one with some of these mods but not all of them could certainly be bought and upgraded for less or equal to that. If your dad’s main focus is the avoid taxes, then this may not be a bad deal. But if he wants to the possible value for his money, I think it’s best to sell the Corvette and wait for the right car to come along.

Why would someone trade away sidepipes and get no sidepipes in return?

I’d recommend looking at the BaT sold results. While BaT isn’t the best indication or market value (they tend to run higher than what you could get from a private seller, but lower than the big name auctions/dealers), they do curate their listings, meaning many of the fastbacks previously sold there are fairly similar to this car.

Keep stingray.

First of all, a ‘65 is a Sting Ray, not a Stingray, and everyone in this thread should be ashamed of yourselves.

Second of all, no g od damned way is that Mustang worth anything near the Vette.

Seems like too much money for a Mustang, really. I get the sense that they’re trying to recoup the cost of mods and selling old cars just doesn’t work that way.

What’s in the Stingray? 327/300 4 speed? Do you have a sense as to what it’s worth? $53k US seems like decent value for the Vette as long as it’s not a hi-po motor - but just too much for a Mustang. I’d look around hard if a Mustang is what he wants (and frankly I’d rather have a C2 roadster, but that’s just me).

Good luck!

Fuck no.

Only thing that wows me on that build sheet is the Glasurit paint. The car probably has a great finish on it.

The rest of it is backyard bolt on stuff. I would not pay 70k CAD for it. It looks like somebody is trying to get out what they paid.

If your dad’s car is a factory side pipe knock off wheeled Vette, assuming a 2.5 quality/condition, that car may be worth 75k-90k CAD.

Edit:

Really dude, you have to run the numbers with your dad. I don’t know him but I still don’t want him to lose his ass in a bum trade. Does he have the NCRS paperwork?

He can afford it, and it's really none of my business.  He can do whatever he wants in my opinion

Is your dad itching to drag/drive people around in the back of an old car? Are there grandkids he’d like to tote with their parent around the block to get some ice cream (bring lots of wet wipes)?

Maaayyybbe I could see doing the deal to get 2+2 motoring if you’re tired of a 2-seater. Then I remind myself that he already has a new Mustang and has 4 seats for that.

Maybe he’s just interested in a different experience? If that were the case I’d want to try something bigger and cruisier personally. Like an Imapala or a Galaxy, not this Mustang.

Dodging taxes is cool, but that may not be enough to sway me personally.

No grand kids or anything, but the main draw is that the Corvette doesn’t have a lot of cargo capacity for long roadtrips
